After doing floodplain for a living for 13 years, I've finally reached the point where I can no longer beg out of taking the Association of State Floodplain Managers' Certified Floodplain Manager exam. Previously, it was always at a great distance (the closest it's ever been was Monterey in 2003, before I was even truly in the picture), plus I had single-dad childcare responsibilities. Now, the boy's an adult, and Sacramento's about as close as I'll see it again for some time. Sacto's Anna's hometown, with family, so she'll drive my achy legs and feet there, drop me at the Hyatt Regency, and head off to spend a couple days with her dad and sister. The Agency is paying for everything, grudgingly, which fact can't be too much condemned considering our budget woes. But at our section's height, we had 7 employees 4 of which were CFMs. Now, it's just me and my boss, with her being the only one. I couldn't deny the fullness of time had finally arrived to make the section 100% CFMish. Here's some info:

Checking in Thursday evening Sept 8, taking test next morning, checking out shortly after. Only to check right back in with my own personal reservation for Friday night. I seldom get any time away, even in small bits, so I'm gonna enjoy fine dining, fine room, hopefully fine TV choices (all I need is MSNBC and Food Network), for one night anyway, darnit.
My only fear with all this is that I'll flunk. (I think 70% is passing, so I shouldn't do too badly.) Thing is, I hate tests, and at least still think I take them badly. But the Graduate Records Exam was a long, long time ago. And I do dream floodplain. So,....!
