The daughter of one of my home village's more wealthy families was
married at her parents large home some years ago.  
 
There was a buffet served after the wedding, catered by a Twin Cities
outfit, and according to my mother and my aunt who attended the
wedding and buffet the latter was "just so very elegant and over the  top."
 
The creme de la creme was "thin-sliced rare roast beef" and the
trimmings to make sandwiches.
 
The two of them talked about the buffet and the roast beef for
at least a decade, and the expression "thin-sliced rare roast beef"
became a tongue-in-cheek expression for elegance in my family.
