Thanks, Lynn! I occasionally remember the dark days when he was
feeling horrible, and having to stay patient when he lashed out
(verbally). I wasn't always patient...I remember yelling back at him
in front of his dad; this might have been the same day we took Scott
to ER at Rush, at Scott's request. That was the start of a very good
thing for him. And a university-based program means he's got a
resident and an attending psychiatrist, so there's collaboration and
consultation. It also means occasional changes in doctors, as the one
who deals with him directly moves on to another residency or a new
practice. The one transition he's had like that has been smooth. And
Scott has learned well to voice concerns directly: "Dr. Jeff used to
do <X>, and that was working well. Could you please do <X> or explain
why not?" These usually deal with something regarding insurance...the
previous doctor went to bat for Scott immediately; the new one is
learning to do that as well, at Scott's urging (and probably that of
other patients).
