Yesterday we had a Eucharist and Pot Luck and honoured St. Lucy.
Kick-off was 5:30. I had been asked to do the Prayers of the People,
whih I put together yesterday afternoon. I also ran off my Christmas
letter and at 5 p.m. I was chopping lettuce for the Caesar salad I was
bringing. Got to the church just after 5:20. Oh Oh! Up there in the
chancel the service was underway. Yikes! Flung off coat in choir room,
extracted Prayers. Swept up the aisle straight to lectern at the top of
the chancel steps just as the priest was saying 'Let us pray for Christ
Church and the world" Deep breath in, deep breath out and on with the
prayers. Talking about being right on cue! As the server said after,
'Just in time. Born in the vestry.'
Turned out the service after some back-and-forthing had been set for 5
p.m. I hadn't made doubly sure. Memo to self! Missed little Santa
Lucia with her wreath of lighted candles. Tsk.
