Back when I was in college (I think) there was a huge blackout in the
Northeast.

One little boy in North Conway was walking home from school, bored in the
cold, whacking each light pole with a stick as he went along. He gave one
light pole a particularly smart whack, then was astonished to see the
lights in the valley below go dark.

He ran home crying, sure he'd done it.
