One cannot effectively preach on *all* the readings for a given day
(lessons, gospel, preface, collects, etc).  So why feel obligated to preach
on any one of them?

So, I'd read the "assigned", then find in one of them a way to segue into
John, and take it from there.

Or, you could go back to the good old days when the intro to John was read
at the end of every Eucharist.
