Oh, no, I do not think you are out of it at all.  Lovecraft has always been
a sort of obscure niche market, and today a year or so can easily go by
without hearing anything of his work.

As I read "The Call of Cthulu," I found that his work is not so horrific at
all, but is more like mood development by today's' standards.  In his day,
there were very few pictures ever.  He could very well say, along with most
ancient writers, "It's only words, but words are all I have to ...."

And in case you're not sure, here is the correct way to pronounce the word
C-T-H-U-L-U:
