Nick-the-malamute found a neighbor who not only allowed him inside for
the night, but fed him non-allergy food (a tin of mackerel). That's
the survival-by-making-friends talent of this particular dog.

However, the moment daughter Sam walked in, it was clear to everyone
who belonged to whom (Animal Control officer, neighbor,
husband/father, young woman/"dog owner" - and dog). Sam & Nick have a
large shared vocabulary ... verbal & non-verbal.
