My grandparents were all Republicans of the old-fashioned kind. My maternal
grandfather ran for office in southwest Missouri a few times under that
label. I would venture to say with complete certainty that they would all
be totally horrified at today's Republican party. I am also fairly sure
that at least some of them voted once or twice for FDR, even while voting
for Republicans down ballot.

My paternal grandmother became completely disillusioned with the
Republicans during Watergate. She'd voted for Nixon and was PO'd to the
max. After that she was not happy with the way things went in the party,
and she positively *despised* Reagan. I can remember walking into her
apartment while she was watching the news and Reagan was on the screen
blathering about something. She was glaring at the TV and saying to his
image, "You're stupid, and you're OLD!" She was, at the time, about 93
LOL...but you didn't dare tell her that *she* was old! And aside from her
body's age, she wasn't.
