Carol Burnett (I love Carol Burnett) is in this same category.   Who
can get rid of the vision of her in the wonderful Carol Burnett Show,
no matter what other part she played?  She was most successful  in
breaking away from that image in her "Annie" performance, but her
comedic side did slip in there a few times, too.
