One year I was visiting a cousin in Florida over the Fourth. She had two German shepherds, one of whom was terrified of fireworks. Her neighbor, a vet, advised giving the dog a little vodka before the evening's festivities; then she'd just sleep through them. So my cousin poured a little into the dog's water dish--but the other dog promptly drank it! The upshot of it was that there were two very drunk German shepherds staggering around long after the fireworks were over! I don't remember that either of them actually slept through the fireworks, but they certainly weren't bothered by them!
