Well, there is that.
 
Though I was 40 by the time my ear was pierced, it took about two
seconds for my mother so see it and comment.  She wasn't  judgmental,
but simply asked me "Why?"
 
I gave her the solje answer, and that was the last the ear was  mentioned.
