My sister & I got pierced ears in Equador. It was cost for babies, as I
Arrived but mom waited til  I was two.  then in my 30s I got one more
piercing in each ear.   I d rather jewelry than tattoos.

Rather than the late Prince Consort having such a piercing I would guess
the connection is the reference to a watch-chain as a Prince Albert.
