My understanding is that you can't catch shingles from another person; it's
the result of having the virus in your body from a bout with chicken pox.
OTOH, a person who hasn't been vaccinated against chicken pox can catch it
from a person with shingles.  When I had shingles, I was careful not to
visit one set of grandchildren, because they had not had the chickenpox
vaccine.

They subsequently caught chicken pox from a child who was also not
vaccinated, and three of the four of them were extremely sick. Now, of
course, they will all be at risk for shingles at some ponit in their
lives...
