Got it back Tuesday evening.  New transmission (Kia-certified rebuild) makes it run so smoothly I'm seriously wondering if it wasn't on its way out when I bought the engine 1.5 years ago.  All told, including Enterprise rental, $2200, which though adding to my already never-to-be erased debt, is at least better than $15000 for a new car (about what I'd pay, total, today at Enterprise Car Sales, where I bought this one nine years ago).

Next project:  tires.  They're needed badly now, but Mr Mechanic creatively rotated the best two to the front for me so as to buy me some time.  (And with virtually no out-of-town driving, I will get at least another six months out of them.)

Sigh.  I never imagined I'd ever eventually die with so much debt.  If I never marry again, it'll of course evaporate upon my demise, but still.  It's the principle (hah!) of it all.
