Javier Becerra just referred to his father having left school after 6th grade to work to support his family, and that he is the first in his family to get a 4-yr degree.

With due reverence to my retired fireman brother who got the AA necessary to become a Salinas fireman, Javier's story is strangely similar to mine, oddly enough. My mother (turning 88 in Sept) graduated high school. But my father left school after 6th grade to pick cotton to support the family. And I'm the first (pace Kenneth) to get a 4-yr degree.

I'm also rare for having grown up with kids who laughed at me for having parents who could be their own parents' parents. Pop was born the year "The Jazz Singer" came out, and Mom was born the next year, each of them before sound film had fully taken over, and before commercial network radio was the transcontinental norm. Both, before the Great Depression.

What a life. And still a Baby Boomer, if you stretch the dates.... (Pop served in WWII.)
