No, I agree that Trump is worse as a preson and in the damage that he
could effect as President compared with the power of the UK Prime
Minister. That said the Chilcot Inquiry into the Iraq War, eventually
released only a few weeks ago, showed that Tony Blair was prone to make
important decisions without consulting the Foreign and Defence
Secretaries, and seemed to have applied pressure on the Attorney General
to come up with a legal opinion saying that war would be justified
without snother UN Resilution. The bottom line of the report is that
not all diplomatic efforts had been used so the necessity of using force
had not been established.
His personal charisma and self-confidence presumably deterred cabinet
ministers from demanding more of the "evidence", even if it cost them
their jobs - which would not only have caused a public reaction but also
given the monosters the right to make a personal statement in Parliament
oulimimg the reasons for their departure, much as Geoffrey Howe stuck
his dagger in Margaret Thatcher's back after his resignation from the
government. That notable speech is seen by many as lighting the fuse
that led to Mrs Thatcher's downfall not many days later. Perhaps the UK
would have been better served, though at the cost of upsetting President
Bush who wanted toi complete what his father had started by driving
Saddam's Iraq out of Kuwait. In that Bush 41 had the benefit of broad
multi-national support that would never have been forthcoming for what
Bush 43 purposed..
> Well, he played a less than honest game in the Brexit campaign, but since becoming Foreign Secretary he has played his cards quite well, charming his EU counterparts by speaking French and German and making them laugh. I’m not sure Trump could pull that off!
Almost certainly not. Although I am disappointed with the refeerendum
result I think Theresa May has made some astute appointments in Jognson,
Davis and Fox as those in charge of implementing Brexi. "He Brexit
(breaks it; he can fix it." If they fail in that task then she can
simply say to them "You said this thing could be made to work. Tou are
the ones who failed so don't slam the door on the way out.
