Perhaps because of the traditional pilgrimage route through
France and Spain chock full of significant abbeys and churches 
of significance.
 
It takes a lot to impress (or in this case, stun) the retired  Pontiff,
Benedict XVI, but his visit to Santiago-de-Compostela was an
occasion to trot out what must certainly be the world's biggest
thurible.  The You Tube video clip with the Pope's stupified
expression is priceless.
