It's not only the rail stations, but churches frequently end up in  areas
that are unsavory  A good example of that is Newark NJ Cathedral  of
the Sacred Heart finally completed in the 1940's in what was then a
pretty nice neighborhood.  Not so, now.  The parking lot is one  of those
fenced in affairs with 24/7 security.
 
This is a sad situation for what is probably the third USA RC  Cathedral
in size (after the Basilica in Washington, DC, and New York's
Saint Patrick's Cathedral.
