Jon, you of all people must know that you don't need to worry about anybody else's comfort or about relieving anybody else's fears or anxieties or needs.
That said, from your work you know a lot more about how hard the end of living can be than most of us.  Even so, do let me respectfully suggest that those who share these days with you don't want you dependent any more than you want to be dependent--but they do want you stay with them  (we want you to stay with us) as long as you can without prolonged suffering.
