Absolutely. The intertribal wars were brutal, as were the frontier wars
between Aboriginal peoples and European settlers.>>>>>>>
My father (1880-1958) regaled us with stories of the Black Hawk War
(the Midwestern war; not the Utah war) which took place in 1832.
Chief Black Hawk and his Fox, Sauk, and Kickapoo Indians made the
fatal mistake of moving about 1,000 tribespersons east into Illinois from
Iowa.
They were perceived as a threat, and a US Militia of 7,000 pinned them
against the banks of the Mississippi in what is now Wisconsin.
There, as many as 600 of Black Hawk's Tribe were mowed down helped
by Hawk's enemies, the Menomonie, and Sioux Tribes, who prevented
Black Hawk's escape to the west.
I think Chief Black Hawk was the great-grandfather of Jim Thorpe
(as in the picturesque town in Pennsylvania).
