[Magdalen] opinions on web based eye glasses???

I'm facing having to replace my beloved Silhouette rimless glasses 'frames' 
after a few recent years of patch/patch/patch. I found a place online where 
I can order them for 50% of what an optometrist  would charge for them but 
am somewhat leery of having my lenses 'made' in this way.  I had planned to 
have my eye exam, bring the frames that I was going to buy on line in with 
me and then have the optometrist fill the Rx for the lenses (which will have 
to be sent away with the frames because of the way the temples and bridge 
are attached). Even this lens cost is more than a 50% savings online.

My cost savings could be as high as $300-400. if I order online. Even more 
depending on where I go for the eye exam.

SO... has anyone in the pub had experience buying frames and or lenses 
online? what say yea??
