Yes, Cady, Region 13 has always been cool! Years ago, when I was fillng in at Delaplane, I attended their Clericus meetings. Region 14, where I was for 9 years, is also geographically enormous--about 100 miles from top to bottom. Then you have places like Richmond, which has 3 regions in the same area, because the churches are so large. IMHO, it's time for the regions to be set up geographically, rather than by size of churches.

In the late 1960's there were Convocations. The Diocese of VA decided
they/we needed more ways to communicate between the diocese & the
congregations, and ways in which the congregations could work together
on projects. Region 13 has, over the years, cooperated in several
interesting projects, from supporting returning missionaries with
local assignments, to a cooperative youth program director. Right now
several congregations work together with churches from other dioceses
(Georgia, others) to support a church and trade school in Haiti. The
largest region project is a new mission to the Hispanic/Latino
population in the rapidly-growing suburban area west of Washington, DC
(Loudoun County) - there are very good signs that it is the right
mission in the right location.
Yes, Roger - no one else was interested in the presidency. Everyone
else stepped backward and I found myself in the position of
volunteering. Hmmm.
Our region covers a large area - it's at least a 90+-minute drive from
our church (furthest west) to several of the other churches. The
smallest church has 34 members and a Sunday-only, part-time, retired
priest. The largest church has ?800? members in suburban Washington,
DC area with several full-time staff. Lots of diversity!
I hadn't realized until this week that, as the Region President, I get
a vote at the annual diocesan convention. That means we have another
delegate from our church! Cool!
Now, to figure out what this year's report to the Regional President's
meeting will be ... there's some work yet to do before I can go
tomorrow.
