Catholic priests do not seem to do much one on one pastoral stuff these days. My recent brush with my mom's former parish seemed to make that abundantly clear.

Yes, it's like the folks who expect you to visit them in the hospital,
whether anyone has told you they were there or not! And then, when you don't
show up, they're mad.
I kept telling my congregation that ESP was not one of my

When I had my hips replaced, I was in hospital/rehab 8 days for each
hip (they were six months apart). I made it a point to inform the local
Procathedral that this was happening and where.
On both occasions, the clergy of the Procathedral failed to show up.
I was also singing for the Latin Rite Tridentines, and I provided the
same information to the clergy there.
On both occasions the Latin Riters did not show up.
I didn't comment to the Procathedral that they had missed the boat, but
I did say something to the Tridentine pastor. His response: "Oh, we
don't make hospital visitations." (!)
