[Magdalen] In the weeds

Good for you! I tend to just mow the dandelions and leave it at that.
However, a few days ago I went down to the road and took my machete to a
large stand of Japanese knotweed. And then I took my trimmer to a
neighboring stand of wild chervil. Both are noxious invasive weeds - the
wild chervil having arrived in Vermont only recently. I know the Japanese
knotweed is probably a lost cause, but hopefully if I can keep the wild
chervil from setting seed (it's a biennial related to Queen Anne's lace), it
will go away.

I weeded and weeded and weeded today and I have my back rose back,
more or less. We had a big storm a couple of nights ago that softened
up the soil and I was able to get the awful tap-rooted dandelions out
without much of a struggle. I still have work to do but the worst is
over.
