There was a period in the 1970's when a pound sterling = a dollar.
 
We were working on our set of Royal Crown Derby at the time, and
we "bought out" Lawley's china store in London to complete the
set.  Obviously the weak UK pound was a temporary windfall.  A  couple
of months later, it was back to relatively "normal" levels.   International
finance is way beyond me.
