As the acerbic character on the top rated NCIS series (CBS/USA), "Anthony
DiNozzo," is repeatedly pointing out, "Double negatives make a positive."

And then he correctly points out that double negatives ("I didn't owe him
nothing" etc.) were sometimes written into plays of the Shakespearean
period for emphasis of a positive idea. Usually the thug who is being
questioned has utterly no idea what DiNozzo is talking about, which ends
up doubling the thug's put down.

I dearly hope the character's real life actor, Michael Weatherly, can get
his act together and off the booze. He's had several DUI's in the past
six months.
