May Sarton wrote about raccoons that became enraged at her placement of a woodpile that blocked their access to goodies at her house and woke her in the night with the noise they made throwing the logs around. Our neighborhood in Syracuse was once jumping up and down with raccoons (they never met a garbage can they couldn’t open), but then they disappeared. Wildlife people said they died from distemper, not from rabies.
