It varies from locale to locale.
 
Nowadays, because the Wasserman is non specific, and will give a
false positive in other conditions (such as systemic lupus) the test
has pretty much been replaced by the VDRL and the RPR tests that are
more specific.
 
The various VD clinics ( most municipalities have them for the  region)
are left the big users of these tests.
