Sad to hear that is part of the picture.
 
I did own property at Pinehurst, NC (sold at the time of my
divorce), and I got some of those attitudes there, also.  I  would
guess that Pinehurst, Southern Pines, and Ft. Bragg in the
Sandhills don't bear the brunt of these storms, but they can
get some wind damage and a lot of rain.
 
I hope Pennsylvania gets some rain out of this system, short of
floods and wind damage.
