Otherwise they'll bail in a year or two.

I've probably told this story before.
We rented a small place there. Between the rental cottage and a grammar
school (we could see the lawn shining through the trees) was a swampy area
inhabited by alligators, who entertained us by grunting at dawn and dusk.
A scandal broke while we were there. A couple of cherubs in the fifth grade
had started picking up a wandering pussycat or small dog on the way to
school to feed to the alligators at recess. These feedings were attended by
a small group of cheering students. Finally one of the other students blew
the whistle on this practice.

Wonder what ever happened to those kids.
