The *Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner*, commonly known as the *Al
Smith Dinner*, is an annual white tie
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_tie> fundraiser for Catholic
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church> charities supporting needy
children held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waldorf-Astoria_Hotel> in New York on the
third Thursday of October. It is organized by the Alfred E. Smith Memorial
Foundation in honor of former New York Governor Al Smith
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Smith>, the first Catholic presidential
candidate
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_1928>;
the dinner is hosted by the Archbishop of New York
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archbishop_of_New_York> (currently Cardinal
Timothy Dolan <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_M._Dolan>.)
It was tonight, and both Trump and Clinton spoke. Trump did a few good
jokes, but then started attacking Hillary without any joking. He was booed
by some of the crowd. Hillary was pretty funny, although not at Obama
level.
