Was delighted to see a volunteer petunia flowering an an otherwise barren
tree pit last summer. Wish I'd taken a picture of it. It looked so brave,
so triumphant.

PS: if you don't live in a city, Google has lots of pics of tree pits. We
tend ours with pride but fighting off the dog walkers is part of the tending
