Well, in general, I think you have to be prepared to drive to get a decent organ job. I've been subbing (freelancing) all my life, but especially since 1910 when my position at St. John Vianney disappeared as the result of a soi disant budget crisis. That was the stated reason, the real reason has to be something else. In any case, my IRS salary increased so I could afford to take a decrease on the bench with greater diversity.

I've been in music for many years, I have always been traveling When I was a teenager I got the jobs on the other side of the city. When we moved when I was in college and had a car at my disposal. I got the jobs at the other side of the city. I now think an hours journey by bus or rapid transit and a 30 minute commute by car is to be expected. I have succeeded in getting the emolument increased when requested due to gas concerns.

recently I received a request to drive 2 hours to Highland NC I received a $100 car allowance.

Am returning for a lucrative wedding in NOvember.

Flexibilty is the name of the game. If you want my opinion I will give it to you, if you don't want my opinion but pay well, no questions asked. I hate In the Garden. I will play it with gusto if the rest of the program and fees are ok. Don't ask me to schlach for less than $150. My high standards will rise in proportion (g0 The church that pays me $75 (that I love very much) doesn't ask me to play junk. My experience of Methodist repertoire has increased. It didn't hurt
