A priest I know tends to hold his wine cup like a liturgical chalice
with his 2nd and 3rd fingers around the mid-stem knob.  It is  just
a bit affected.
 
This reminds me of RC friends I had in high school would come
into the one local cinema theater and genuflect before sitting down.
