Goodness, what a marvelous article.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

There is an organization that I highly recommend - the OHS
(Organ Historical Society). This group is particularly devoted
to the preservation of pipe organs through the years. The
organization is very well funded, and has a yearly meeting,
this year in Minneapolis/Saint Paul, MN.

They are just in the midst of remodeling a large Pennsylvania
home that was given them as their national headquarters.

In their slick periodical, "Tracker," there is a marvelous history
of church music for choirs. This purports to give the history
of all denominations, Protestant and Roman Catholic, but is
mostly about choral performance in TEC.

They trace choral music by the paid quartets that sat with
the organist in the rear gallery, on through the aping of
English Cathedral men and boys choirs, and finally the
mixed chorus or men and women.

In the process, the archtypical divided choir and organ up
front entered the scene.
