My father was a good driver, but I recall one occasion when he nearly
lost control of our car.  This was because we saw two heavily  habited
RC nuns walking together on the sidewalk.  RC's were very sparse  in
the Upper Midwestern Scandinavian territory, and seeing the nuns
was a real shock in the 1940's.
 
They were in my home town to teach catechism classes to the
half-dozen or so RC students in the area.
 
Times have changed, however, and there is an active RC congregation
with a new, modern church in my home town.
