Not sure if you got an answer to this, I'm catching up email and am way
behind

The one I enjoyed is by Naomi Novik. I also loved her Temeraire series
which, though for young readers, require a more advanced level of reading
than most of that YA genre.

Uprooted has some wonderful imagery and would, I think, make a stunning
movie
