Speaking of The Caine Mutiny, I've always DESPISED the horribly disjointed love story seemingly just spliced in to say there was one.  And the writing (of that part of the movie)... when the young sailor asks his "girlfriend" ("quotes" because she acts sometimes like she doesn't even know him) ... "May I love you?" and she replies "After we're married" or somesuch.  Jesus! I used to think when I became an adult and could take in the whole movie rather than just the crazy Trump, er, Bogey parts, "Gawd, at the lengths movie companies will go to to toe the Hayes Code AND make reference to sex!"
