The search committee I was on that brought us the
excellent-in-many-ways Fr. David Cobb did the diocese-recommended
parish survey (CAT, or Congregation Assessment Tool, from Holy Cow!
Consulting of Ohio) and held a forum or two to collect input. What our
survey results didn't tell us was the most important thing: "Change
the music staff, or anything about the music, and you'll be run out of
town on a rail." We learned many lessons on that one. We've got a
potential search coming up, once a mutual decision is made as to
whether our priest-in-charge will become rector. I'm all for it, but
of course it has to work for him, too. If not, I think the Vestry
plans to be the search committee. In any case, I won't be on it!
