I notice there is a tendency for return of the Tabernacle for Reservation
of the Blessed Sacrament to just behind a church's high altar. This is
true for Anglocatholics and Roman Catholics. It's been hard to find
the Reserved Sacrament at times since Vatican-2.
I toured, yesterday, the brand new Saint Jude RCC up the road about
8 miles in Mountain Top, PA yesterday, and despite the fact that it
is essentially of the "Akron" plan, is a splendid new worship location.
I was a little surprised to see the Tabernacle directly behind the
center of the altar. The Sacrament had been reserved in an off
sanctuary location in the old church.
Their average Sunday attendance is 2,500, and the church seats
850.
Though Vatican 2 did not require moving Tabernacles from altars,
such a suggestion still remains with the General Instructions to the Roman
Missal.
For me, it's tantamount to finding an old friend when I see central
tabernacles,
and it has never bothered me in such a location to be able to discern the
new
Eucharist at the altar from the Reserved Eucharist in the Tabermacle.
So, presumably, it's permitted now to have an aumbry, pyx, sacrament house,
or a tabernacle centrally located behind the altar nowadays.
Time marches backwards.
