Real estate is a huge real deal here in Houston and suburbs. Since the hurricane many intact homes are up for sale. 1,000s of people are looking to buy and rent now. Property taxes are disproportionately higher here also, no income tax.

Even in Vermont, this would go for more.

Tiny lot, tho.

Subject: [Magdalen] Benedictine Abbey for sale

Our Benedictine community, the House of Initia Nova, has its abbey in a
large home in Houston. The abbot and sister who live there are putting it
up for sale with the intention of buying a new abbey elsewhere. From the
perspective of the Chicago housing market, this Houston home looks like a
steal. Have spent much time there attending convocations, and it's a very
spacious and comfortable home, well situated (didn't flood). The giant
Great Room serves as the community's Oratory. The altar and reredos were
removed for the photos, but the organ is there.

Now every time I look at houses for sale, I look for the room that would
work as the oratory. :)

It just amazes me that the asking price (in line with selling prices in the
area) is roughly the same as, or perhaps even less than, what our modest
but roomy apartment would cost if it went condo.
