He was Jim Guthrie's parish priest for a time.
 
He was very open about being gay and a recovering alcoholic.
He wrote clever poetry, and had some strong and often
worthwhile opinions on many of the social and religious issues
of the day.
 
I think he had been raised as a Roman Catholic.
 
There was a chronic vitriolic exchange with some members of
St. Sam's which I found entertaining up to the point that this  all
went overboard at times.
 
He lived through a very bad session (aboard an ocean liner) of a
significant heart attack.  He was belatedly evacuated to expert
heart facilities, but not before significant damage was done and
from which he really never fully recovered.
 
I will miss his strong personality.
