Oh, Cady, I’m so jealous about the morels! They don’t seem to be very plentiful on this side of the punt Aina, though there were lots in Page County, but they were very hard to find—and no one would tell where they found them! You see people with sack all up and down Massanutten Mountain in the spring. A friend had about 250 acres on the side of a mount up the hollow from me, and there were two people she would allow to hunt them every year. I once found 14 up there, and that remainsmy all-time record! Other years I found just one or two.
Two years ago one single morel inexplicably popped up in my front yard here—it’s the only one I’ve ever seen here!
Over there they call them Merkels and give you a blank look if you call them Morels... One more clue to the fact that “You’re not from around here, are you?”
