The next few days marks our final departure from Massachusetts. Tonight we drive down there. Tomorrow we pick up a 15-ft. U-Haul truck and make a final loading up of furniture, etc., appropriately (I suppose), on Ash Wednesday. Weather looks good and we have several volunteers to help. Thursday AM there’s a closing, following which we drive the truck up here and off-load it into a local storage place. It stays there for a few months because, <a> there’s ice & snow blocking the doors of the outbuildings it might go into, and <b> I really really don’t want to get the U-Haul truck stuck trying to get up our driveway. Then finally on Friday we return the U-Haul to a place in Barre.

We lived in this house for over 30 years, raised two kids in it, so it will be sad to leave it and all the friends we’ve made over the years. OTOH, we like Vermont and this property a whole lot better. And, I calculate that we should be at least $1500/month richer without that house.

The house in MA was built in the early 1850’s and looks pretty good on the outside (see https://www.flickr.com/photos/cwohlers/20044303594) – but definitely not so good on the inside. The guy who’s buying it plans on tearing it down and putting up a new house in its place – which I’m definitely not happy about. OTOH, that means we just leave all the junk we don’t want to keep (and there’s lots of it!) and don’t have to deal with a dumpster.

So – prayers all goes well and we survive this ordeal!
