I always thought he had great integrity, though I didn’t always agree with his theology. I once came upon one of his televised programs—Crusade for Christ, I think, and I was quite moved by his words and by the numbers of people who made their way down the long aisles of that arena. And yes, I know all the objections to all of that. And I was much younger, but even then, I was very skeptical of televangelists. Graham seemed like the real deal to me.
Never understood his affinity for Nixon, but obviously Nixon needed prayer and spiritual guidance as much as anyone else, and perhaps Graham felt called to that particular ministry.
