As the Greek prof at my Baptist college used to shout at his students, "Context! Context!"

We here in the land of Climatic Blandness (even in the time of Climate Change; we don't get Extremes, we just get Different) are kinda feeling like it's Salinas's Olden Thyme "winter", meaning colder than summer which used to be cold itself but now isn't (see above). We even have some fog every now and then (which used to be DAILY throughout the year till 9:00-11:00 am), but by and large only during the night (which I sometimes see during one of my nocturnal apartment rambles). For the last week or so, and starting up again next week (with a wind advisory yet) we've been having some rain. Probably enough to keep us hovering around normal, possibly a slight tick above. Though Monterey County rainfall success-failure is defined strictly by where few people actually live, ie, down around our two reservoirs where it counts (the Salinas flows "upward", recall). We had what we call a Cold Snap a few weeks ago: one night we even slipped into freezing --- 31F. Not enough to freeze pipes, obviously, but enough to make me put on a jacket a couple times during the day. (I don't wear jackets. Period. Last night I wore a heavy pullover to Nob Hill Foods and before long I felt like I was going to rip it off with a banshee-like scream, but I chose rather to sweat it out,... ha.)
