Ah, the poor vowels when a Tr*mp happens.

Yesterday on Nicole Wallaces's show (1:00 pm PT, 4:00 pm ET), "Deadline White House", Jennifer Palmieri (HRC's campaign comm dir), gave what I think is, to date, the best defense of not aster*sking, "bleep"ing, or "s-"ing what Tramp or anyone else has and will say. The question always revolves around properness in its many manifestations, but most often when it comes to children hearing and seeing it on the b**btube, social media, and in print media. Her case I summarise thusly: We of course want to, not necessarily "protect" our children from such things, but rather avoid them having to think that that's what the world's necessarily really like (ie, that everyone's that way). But at the same time, we the adults in the worldroom don't want them to ultimately think that we thought whitewashing, or God forbid lying about it, was the best for them in terms of growing up into responsible adults. In a word, unfortunately, "normal" life for them, both now and later, should never involve us putting our imprimatur on the "normalising" of someone/thing like Tramp and his ilk.

Hence, her basic message is that when we're (reporters, commentators, and "ordinary" folk) referring to him having said shithole, we should say shithole.

And I agree. But with I'd guess most of us here, I can't say we should do it, necessarily, all the time. (And so far I haven't, believe it or don't, original subject line notwithstanding, or, I should say, the case in point.)

And then there's what I've unapologetically added to my sig line.

Sh**sh, he s**d.
