Winter white was certainly appropriate for the Russians in WW-2.  It was great for the
Eastern Front.
 
Back in the day when I was a "clothes-horse," I had a couple of white suits I wore to
church and occasionally to work.  I would never dream of wearing white during
the winter.
 
The closest I've come to white in the winter was wearing my wool, Hudson's Bay
off-white coat with the stripes.
