Good day,

I learned a new word at the retreat: transectional - a choir member
who has the range/ability to sing in more than one section (only one
section at a time; my idea of heaven is always to have all choir
sections available to sing harmony, or to be able to sing any part at
any time!).

There are now 16 regions in the Diocese of Virginia, up from the 15
regions last year. The retreat was originally envisioned by Bishop Ted
Gulick 6 years ago. After he retired (temporarily - he "fails" at
retirement!), the responsibility for the retreat was picked up by
Bishop Bob Ihloff.

With the current uncertainties at the diocesan level (the search for a
suffragan bishop was called off; Bishop Shannon Johnston proposes
retiring before next summer; an outside group is tasked to assist with
diocesan staff issues), it was interesting to hear - well - little
more than what we have already learned from the bishop's emails.
Frustrating, but of-a-piece with all the more important recent
frustrations with national situations and events.

The high points of the retreat were getting to know a few of the
diocesan staff, learning the "new normal" annual schedule (the annual
convention moved from January to November), hearing about region
issues and missions, and listening to Bishop Bob, a historian by
training and a bishop by being.

The only low point was that we never sang together.

A personal report from one small corner of the Anglican Communion -

turning back to badly-behaving computers ...
what is going on with the bad "computer weather" these days?
